On 28 October 1990, a truck was robbed at 1 a.m. on the Jhajjar-Rohtak Highway, with Rs. 86,000 taken. Two appellants were convicted of robbery under IPC sections 394 and 34. The Supreme Court allowed their appeal on the ground that both key pieces of evidence—eyewitness identification and confessions—were unreliable and could not mutually support each other. The Court found that no Test Identification Parade was conducted despite the nighttime incident offering only headlight illumination, and the confessions contained irreconcilable contradictions about a recovered amount. The appellants were acquitted."
