On 28 October 1990, a truck was robbed at night on the Jhajjar-Rohtak Highway with Rs. 86,000 stolen. Two men were convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment for robbery under IPC sections 394 and 34. The Supreme Court acquitted them, finding that the identification of the appellants was unreliable—made in court three years after the incident despite no physical descriptions being recorded in the FIR or police statements. Further, conflicting confessions about recovery of Rs. 4,000 (claimed spent in one, untouched for nine months in another) demonstrated investigative negligence. The Court held that neither identification nor confession met evidentiary standards, requiring acquittal and benefit of doubt to the accused."
