Ravindra Kumar applied for a police constable position with a clean record. Shortly after, he was charged with assault-related offences but was acquitted before his selection interview. On the verification form, he stated no criminal cases had been registered. The State cancelled his selection, claiming he had concealed information. The Supreme Court held that non-disclosure of an acquitted case does not automatically disqualify a candidate. Considering his acquittal, excellent character reports from police, and bona fide belief that acquitted cases need not be disclosed, the Court found the cancellation arbitrary. The appeal was allowed and the appellant was ordered appointed as a Constable with full notional benefits.
