Supreme Court of India 2016-03-14 disposed

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

A Supreme Court bench considered the work of a Committee tasked with drafting a manual for juveniles in custody under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The Committee Member Secretary submitted that the deadline of 31 May 2016 was too short. The Court agreed, holding that while urgent, the matter should not be rushed to avoid producing inadequate work. The Court directed expansion of the Committee to include police personnel and instructed coordination with civil society and the Amicus Curiae to prepare a comprehensive, well-researched document.
