Rikhiram vs State of Chhattisgarh

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

On 14 September 2006, a woman (Ghasnin Bai) was murdered in Raipur. Her son (PW-1) witnessed the accused, including Rikhiram, confining him and bolting the door while the victim lay bleeding. Rikhiram argued he merely helped lock the door and should face confinement charges only, not murder. The High Court and Supreme Court upheld his murder conviction, holding that his conduct—seeing the victim mortally wounded yet confining the witness—demonstrated he was party to the crime. The Court rejected his innocence plea, finding his actions inconsistent with having no prior knowledge. Appeal dismissed.
