In Brief
Two men, Sajeev (A10) and Roy (A11), were convicted for conspiring to mix methyl alcohol with spirit and sell it through an illegal liquor outlet. Seven people died and eleven were blinded after consuming the poisoned liquor. The Supreme Court upheld their convictions, finding sufficient evidence of their conspiracy with the main accused through witness testimony of their delivery of 21 cans of methyl alcohol, falsified sales records, forensic evidence confirming the substance, and their failure to explain incriminating circumstances. The Court held that Section 57(A)(1)(ii) of the Abkari Act applies to all persons who knowingly permit such mixing, regardless of license status, and that all conspirators are jointly liable for resulting deaths even without direct participation.
