A motor accident compensation case where the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded Rs. 9,85,000 at 6% interest. The High Court enhanced this to Rs. 12,12,000 at 9% interest, but applied the higher rate only to the Rs. 2,27,000 increase. The Supreme Court held this was erroneous. The Court partly allowed the appeal, directing that 9% interest apply to the entire Rs. 12,12,000 compensation from the date of filing the claim petition, not just the enhanced portion.
