Shashank Deo Sudhi vs Union of India and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

A writ petition sought free COVID-19 testing for all persons and free treatment in all hospitals. The Supreme Court partly allowed the application for modification, holding that free COVID-19 testing would be available to persons eligible under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana and any other categories of economically weaker sections as notified by the Government. The Court deferred to the Government's expertise in framing and implementing such schemes, while suggesting the Government consider extending benefits to additional economically vulnerable groups.
