In Brief
The Supreme Court dismissed a contempt petition filed by the landowner of Plot No. 14, Janpath Lane, New Delhi challenging permissions granted for renovation work on a building within the prohibited zone of the protected monument Jantar Mantar. The petitioner alleged that ASI and NDMC had violated the Court's 2012 judgment by permitting completion of finishing work on the structure. The Court held that while authorities should have exercised greater caution, no express direction of the judgment was violated. The permissions only covered finishing work without structural expansion, and were later revoked. The Court directed that issues regarding the structure's status and possible demolition be resolved in pending High Court proceedings.
