The Supreme Court dismissed a contempt petition against the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and others, filed by the owner of a plot near Jantar Mantar monument in Delhi. The petitioner claimed authorities had violated the Court's 2012 judgment by allowing construction in a prohibited archaeological area. However, the Court found that the 2012 judgment did not expressly direct demolition of the existing structure, and that permissions granted in 2013-14 (only for finishing, not reconstruction) were revoked by June 2016. Therefore, no contempt was established. The Court directed the High Court to expeditiously resolve pending disputes on the structure's lawfulness, preferably within six months."
