Sonali Sandeep Jadhav & Anr vs Union of India & Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

A pregnant woman at 22 weeks sought termination after medical imaging revealed the fetus had moderate obstructive hydrocephalus with cerebral aqueductal stenosis, likely causing severe brain damage. Doctors opined there was a very high probability of significant neurological impairment and substantial mortality/morbidity risk if the child were born. A multi-specialist medical board found continuation of pregnancy would cause severe mental injury to the mother. The Supreme Court allowed the prayer for medical termination, directing it be carried out immediately at the designated hospital without delay.
