The accused forged her signatures to create unauthorized policies. The Supreme Court allowed the criminal appeal after the accused and complainant settled for Rs.10,00,000, exercising its Article 142 powers. The Court held that non-compoundable offences (cheating, forgery, conspiracy) could be compounded where the dispute was predominantly civil in nature and privately settled between the parties."
