State of Gujarat vs Dhirendrasingh @ Jabarsingh Chauhan

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The State of Gujarat appealed against a High Court order granting bail to Dhirendrasinh, who was accused under Section 302 IPC (murder) in connection with the death of Velcee's husband on 28 June 2016. The Supreme Court found that the deceased had suffered nine knife injuries, some up to 14 cm deep, indicating a brutal killing. Prima facie evidence included guard statements and CCTV footage suggesting the accused's presence at the crime scene. The Court held that the High Court failed to appreciate the gravity of the offence and its circumstances. Accordingly, the Court set aside the bail order and directed the accused's immediate arrest.
