In Brief
The Supreme Court clarified the entitlements of daily wage workers who attain permanent status after completing specified years of service. The Court held that regularised workers must be fitted into existing job descriptions under the applicable pay rules and cannot receive pay scales exceeding those of regularly appointed permanent employees. Additionally, workers who entered service before April 1, 2005 retain benefits under the General Provident Fund scheme, while those entering after fall under the CPF/NPS. Casual leave entitlements cannot exceed those of regular Government employees. The appeal was allowed with these clarifications, directing the State to work out and pay all benefits within two months.
