The State of Madhya Pradesh appealed against the acquittal of Amar Lal by the High Court on charges of causing voluntary causing hurt and murder. The High Court had acquitted the respondent based on the reasoning that while the assault was alleged to have been with a sharp-ended plough bearing nails, the actual injuries found appeared to be caused by a blunt hard substance. The Supreme Court found the case did not warrant interference with the acquittal, considering that credible eye-witness testimony had not been doubted and the High Court had properly evaluated the medical evidence. The appeal was therefore dismissed.
