The applicant, convicted and imprisoned for murder (IPC Section 302) and attempt to murder (Section 307) in a 2002 crime, filed this application claiming he was a juvenile (under 18) at the time of the offence. The Supreme Court directed a trial court enquiry, which verified his date of birth as 4 October 1984, confirming he was 17 years 3 months old when the crime occurred on 17 January 2002. Although the claim came long after conviction, the Court held that juvenility can be raised at any stage of proceedings. The Court upheld the applicant's juvenility claim, set aside his conviction, and acquitted him, cancelling his interim bail bonds. He stands released.
