Suresh vs State of Karnataka

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of an accused for acid attack (Sections 307 and 324 IPC) and rejected his appeal against life imprisonment. The victim, a hospital worker, was attacked with corrosive acid on her face, shoulder, and ear by the accused and his associate after she refused the accused's marriage proposal. Her face and right ear were permanently disfigured. The victim's testimony was credible and uncontradicted. Although the accused had spent 13 years in custody, the Court found that life imprisonment was justified given the severity of the attack, the permanent injuries inflicted, and the threat to the victim's life.
