In Brief
The Delhi Judicial Services examination for 2015 advertised 100 positions with a requirement of 50% aggregate and 40% minimum in each subject for written examination eligibility, plus minimum passing marks for interview. Only 64 candidates qualified for interview; one failed. Petitioners challenged these requirements, seeking relaxed cut-offs, revaluation, and rounding of marks. The Supreme Court dismissed all petitions, holding that minimum marks are justified to assess comprehensive knowledge and suitability for higher judicial office. Where a single examiner evaluates scripts, moderation is unnecessary. Revaluation without statutory provision cannot be ordered. Candidates are estopped from challenging criteria they accepted by participating. Mere vacancy of posts does not justify post-examination relaxation.
