Two men were convicted of gang raping a 16-year-old girl after intoxicating her without consent in 2012. The High Court sentenced them to 15 years imprisonment. On appeal, the Supreme Court upheld the gang rape conviction despite no specific charge being framed for that offence, finding the evidence overwhelming. However, considering the appellants' youth, clean records, backward area origins, and good jail conduct, the Court reduced their sentences from 15 years to 8 years imprisonment, running concurrently. The appeals were partly allowed on sentencing grounds only.
