Union of India & Ors vs A. Rayer & Ors

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

The Union of India challenged a High Court judgment that endorsed the Central Administrative Tribunal's decision to treat Police Constables in Andaman & Nicobar Islands at par with Delhi Police Constables for pay purposes, based on an Anomaly Committee's recommendation. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, finding no justifiable ground to interfere under Article 136 with the concurrent findings of the Tribunal and High Court. The Court vacated default interest at 8% per annum imposed by the High Court but made the vacation conditional on payment of arrears within six months, warning that no further time extensions would be granted.
