The Supreme Court allowed the Union of India's appeal against a High Court judgment that had sought to regularize casual workers employed on a Border Roads Organization (BRO) project for constructing roads providing pilgrimage access. The Court held that it is the Government's sole prerogative to frame schemes for worker regularization, not the courts. The High Court erred by evolving its own scheme instead of applying settled legal principles. Accordingly, the Court set aside the High Court's order and dismissed the writ petition filed by the workers.
