Brigadier Devinder Singh challenged an Armed Forces Tribunal order directing correction of operational records from the 1999 Kargil War (Operation Vijay), claiming he was not properly credited for his performance. The Supreme Court held that courts lack jurisdiction over historical military operational records maintained for strategic studies without direct civil consequences. The Court reasoned that appreciation of military facts is exclusively within the Armed Forces' expertise and established procedures. Courts cannot sit in judgment over credits assigned to officers in such records. Accordingly, the Supreme Court allowed the Union of India's appeals and set aside the Tribunal's direction to correct the After-Action Report.
