In Brief
The Supreme Court imposed a sentence on a contemnor for willful disobedience of orders passed by itself and the Bombay High Court. Despite being found guilty and given multiple opportunities to comply or settle the dispute amicably, the contemnor failed to do so. The Court sentenced respondent No. 1 to seven days simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,00,000, to be distributed between the petitioner and legal services authority. The sentence was kept in abeyance for two weeks to provide a final opportunity for compliance, after which it would take effect automatically.
