Urban Infrastructure Real Estate Fund sought to punish Dharmesh S. Jain for willful disobedience of Supreme Court and High Court orders in a commercial arbitration matter. The Supreme Court, in an earlier judgment, had found him guilty of contempt. When sentencing, the Court imposed seven days simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,00,000/- (with Rs. 4,00,000/- to the petitioner and Rs. 1,00,000/- to the State Legal Services Authority), but suspended the sentence for two weeks to give the contemnor a final opportunity to comply with the orders or settle the dispute amicably.
