The appellant claimed to belong to the Thakar caste, a scheduled tribe, and sought a declaration to that effect. He had filed 50 documents in support before a Committee and subsequently appealed to the High Court, but both rejected his claim. The Supreme Court held that when a party relies on evidence before a judicial body, all evidence must be properly considered and reasoned findings recorded. The Court found the Committee and High Court had not examined all documents placed on record. The appeal was allowed and the case remanded to the Committee for fresh consideration of the merits within six months.
