In Brief
A film producer accused of rape, outraging modesty, criminal intimidation and criminal confinement was granted anticipatory bail, which was later cancelled on the ground of non-disclosure regarding the 2G Spectrum case. The High Court then granted regular bail. The Supreme Court held that bail once granted should not be cancelled without cogent, overwhelming circumstances based on supervening events. The Court found no supervening circumstance justifying cancellation. The accused's eight-month record on anticipatory bail without misconduct, and the delay in filing the complaint favoured grant of bail. The Court affirmed bail but enhanced the personal bond quantum from ₹50,000 to ₹10 lakhs.
