Supreme Court to have full working strength of 34 judges after 2 years

The appointment of Justices Aravind Kumar and Rajesh Bindal as Supreme Court judges is notified today by the Central Government. The recommendation of Justice Bindal, who belongs to the Punjab & Haryana High Court was specifically due to the fact that Punjab & Haryana HC was not represented adequately in the SC. Moreover, he stands at number 2 in the All India seniority of HC judges whereas Justice Aravind Kumar is at number 26. On January 31, 2023, these two names were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium whereas their confirmation as Supreme Court judges completed the sanctioned working strength of 34. The last time this full working strength of the Supreme Court was observed during the period from September 2019 to November 2019. Today, Minister of Law and Justice of India Kiren Rijiju, in his tweet, congratulated the appointed judges by giving his best wishes to them.
