B.S.N.L vs Pawan Kumar Shukla

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

B.S.N.L (a public telecommunications undertaking) appealed against an award of compensation to respondent daily-wage workers engaged on a project-based arrangement. The Supreme Court affirmed the award of compensation but modified it into a lumpsum settlement. Each worker was awarded Rs. 3 lakh as full and final settlement of all claims. The Court directed BSNL to give preference to these workers if hiring fresh daily wagers in future. The compensation was to be paid within six weeks.
