In Brief
The employer of a deceased worker appealed the Commissioner's award of Rs. 3,79,120 compensation to the worker's widow under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923. The High Court dismissed the appeal. The Supreme Court held that the High Court correctly dismissed the appeal, as the Commissioner's factual findings were sound and the appeal involved no substantial question of law. However, the Court modified the compensation order: interest at 12% per annum must be paid from the date of the accident (06.04.1999), not from the date the deposit was ordered, in line with settled law that compensation becomes due when the injury occurs, not upon adjudication.
