In Brief
Landowners of villages Mundka and Bakkarwala appealed for enhanced compensation following land acquisitions under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. The High Court had determined differential compensation rates (a belting system) for different land categories in the 1997 acquisition, and fixed rates for subsequent acquisitions in 2003 and 2005. The Supreme Court partly allowed the appeals, removing the belting system and establishing uniform compensation of Rs. 2,49,408 per bigha for all land acquired in village Mundka in 1997. However, the Court rejected claims for 15% cumulative annual appreciation, holding that flat-rate appreciation based on contemporaneous sale deeds was appropriate, and that Section 24(2) of the 2013 Act did not apply where compensation had already been determined and paid.</summary_100> </invoke>
