Canara Bank and Ors vs Kameshwar Singh

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

This case concerns the authority to impose disciplinary punishment on a Canara Bank employee. The respondent challenged disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Deputy General Manager (the designated Disciplinary Authority), but the final punishment order was passed by the General Manager. The Court held that under Regulation 5(3), any authority higher than the Disciplinary Authority may impose penalties. Thus, the General Manager possessed the authority to pass the punishment order. The Division Bench judgment was set aside and the Single Judge's order remitting the matter to the Appellate Authority was restored. The appeal was allowed in favour of Canara Bank."
