In Brief
Three lecturers at a college in Allahabad applied independently for vacant part-time lecturer positions (not in response to an advertised ad hoc recruitment) and were appointed for a fixed three-month period until April 1990. They later claimed regularization, contending they had been appointed on an ad hoc basis. The Supreme Court held that since they were appointed only on a part-time basis and did not apply pursuant to the ad hoc advertisement, they had no right to regularization under the U.P. Higher Education Service Commission Act, 1980, which provides no regularization mechanism for part-time lecturers.
