In Brief
The respondents applied for and were appointed as part-time Lecturers at a college for a fixed three-month period on a fixed salary, not as ad hoc appointees. After their appointment ended, they sought declaration as ad hoc Lecturers and regularisation. The High Court allowed their petition on the mistaken belief they had applied pursuant to an ad hoc advertisement. The Supreme Court held that the respondents were never appointed on an ad hoc basis, and the statutory provisions governing regularisation of ad hoc teachers do not apply to part-time appointees. The Court allowed the College's appeal, set aside the regularisation orders, and dismissed the respondents' claims.
