In Brief
This case concerns two cooperative group housing societies (Bankmens and Safdarjung CGHS) that claimed allotment of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land. Both societies had been liquidated but were later revived under suspicious circumstances: by persons unconnected to original members, using forged membership lists, with funding from builders, and following the cut-off date for allotments. The CBI investigated and found evidence of fraud. The Supreme Court held that the revival of these societies was illegal and fraudulent, vitiated the entire allotment process, and dismissed the appeals. The Court mandated member verification before land allotment and ordered DDA to refund deposits with 10% interest annually.
