In Brief
The Delhi Development Authority appealed against a judgment regarding land acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, finding the legal issue settled by prior precedents. However, it granted the DDA a one-year grace period to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) by issuing a formal notification. If the DDA fails to do so within that period and remains in possession of the land, it must restore physical possession to the original owner.
