Eleven teacher education colleges applied to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for recognition to conduct B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) and D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education) courses. After satisfying all statutory and infrastructural requirements through rigorous scrutiny, inspection, and review, NCTE granted recognition—but only for Academic Year 2022-2023 instead of 2021-2022. The Supreme Court held that once NCTE had confirmed all requirements were met, there was no rational basis for deferring recognition. The Court extended the timeline from a prior precedent and directed NCTE to grant recognition for 2021-2022, allowing students to enrol and participate in admissions counselling immediately.
