In Brief
Eight teacher education colleges sought recognition from NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) to conduct B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. courses. NCTE and its regional committees approved all their applications after verifying infrastructure, facilities, and compliance, but granted recognition only from Academic Session 2022-2023, not 2021-2022. The Supreme Court held that once NCTE has verified all requirements are met, there is no rational basis to deny recognition for the earlier academic year when the delay is caused by NCTE itself. The Court allowed the petitions, extended the applicable timeline, and directed NCTE to grant recognition effective from 2021-2022, enabling admissions and counselling for that academic year."
