DR. VIJAY MALLYA vs STATE BANK OF INDIA & ORS

Bench: 2 — Uday Umesh Lalit, Ashok Bhushan

In Brief

Dr. Vijay Mallya sought review of a 2017 judgment convicting him of contempt of court for violating interim orders issued by the Karnataka High Court restraining him from alienating or transferring properties, and for failing to fully disclose assets and the movement of US$40 million received in 2016. The Supreme Court found that while it erred in stating no reply was filed by Mallya on 30 January 2017, the reply did not address the core factual findings. As the reply contained no contradictory evidence or explanation for non-compliance with the court orders, the review petitions were dismissed.
