The Supreme Court found Respondent No. 3 (Vijay Mallya) guilty of contempt on two counts: failing to fully disclose his assets as ordered (particularly a bank account through which US$ 40 million was transferred) and violating the High Court of Karnataka's restraint orders by transferring that money to his children after its receipt in February 2016. The Court held it had jurisdiction over subordinate court violations in the same cause. The Court rejected applications to recall the contempt notice and directed Respondent No. 3 to appear in person for sentencing, declining to excuse personal attendance as required by the contempt rules.
