A cooperative society conducted elections to its Managing Committee, but only 1,390 of 12,000 voters participated. The Supreme Court found that the election violated Rule 35A(3) of the Kerala Cooperative Society Rules because the election schedule was published only in two local dailies with limited circulation (~3,000), providing inadequate notice. The Court set aside the election and directed a fresh election with wider publication in major newspapers. Pending the new election, the Managing Committee was to continue as an ad-hoc body. The Election Commission was given six months to complete the process.
