Guhan vs State represented by Inspector of Police

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Guhan and co-accused filed appeals against their conviction and three-year sentence for criminal intimidation under Sections 307/149 IPC. During proceedings, the injured victim's sister married one of the accused. The Supreme Court, finding reconciliation between the parties and noting they were neighbours seeking to live peacefully, exercised its power under Article 142 to permit compounding of the offence. The Court modified the sentence to the period already undergone (18+ months) and ordered immediate release of the accused, thereby disposing of the appeals.
