In Brief
Harpreet Singh was arrested in possession of narcotic substances (1200 ml of liquid medication and 150 tablets of Carisoma) following FIR No. 0003 of 2018 under Section 22 NDPS Act. The recovered quantity of the liquid was marginally above commercial quantity, and Carisoma tablets are not narcotic substances. The petitioner had been in custody since arrest and no other cases were pending against him. The trial was in early stages. The Supreme Court granted regular bail, holding that prolonged pre-trial custody served no useful purpose when guilt must be established after trial completion, provided he furnishes bail bonds satisfactory to the trial court."
