In Brief
The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation challenged High Court orders awarding land compensation for an industrial sector development in Sonipat. The Supreme Court examined the compensation for two acquisitions separated by approximately 22 months. For the first acquisition (June 2005), the Court held that using the main sale deed exemplars (dated April 2005) with a 50% cut yielded Rs. 24,50,000/- per acre, rejecting the High Court's higher figure. For the second acquisition (March 2007), the Court awarded Rs. 30,73,280/- per acre by applying a 12% cumulative increase to the first acquisition's compensation, as both were for the same purpose. The appeals were partly allowed and compensation reduced accordingly.
