In Brief
Landowners challenged a Supreme Court judgment concerning land acquisition compensation in Haryana villages on grounds of factual and arithmetical errors. The Court rejected most grounds but accepted that arithmetical mistakes had occurred in calculating market values per acre. It corrected the figures to Rs.39,54,666/- per acre for Naharpur Kasan and Kasan, Rs.29,77,333/- per acre for other villages, and Rs.59,31,999/- per acre for Manesar. The Court held that excess compensation already paid must be returned; if returned by 30 June 2019, no interest applies; thereafter 9% annual interest is payable. The Court clarified that landowners had not been guaranteed a minimum of Rs.37,40,000/- per acre.
