In Brief
IQ City Medical College sought to renew its permission to admit 150 MBBS students for the 2017-18 academic year. After an initial inspection found minor deficiencies and a Hearing Committee recommended approval, the Central Government referred the matter back to the MCI for further compliance verification. The new inspection found additional deficiencies and renewal was denied. The College challenged this order. The Supreme Court held that while the MCI may conduct thorough inspections beyond initially mentioned deficiencies, the Central Government's rejection lacked reasoned justification. The Court directed the Government to afford the College a fresh hearing before the newly constituted Oversight Committee and issue a reasoned decision within two weeks.
