On 7 March 2000, two men impersonating Customs officers intercepted a businessman and snatched his bag containing Rs. 5 lakhs in cash. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Jahangir Hussain for dacoity and Parmeshwar Lal Soni for receiving stolen property, based on eyewitness identification and recovery of the stolen money. However, the Court reduced the sentence from seven years to five years imprisonment, considering that nearly 19 years had elapsed, both appellants had no prior criminal records, and one had already served considerable time in custody.
