Supreme Court of India 2019-09-05 dismissed

JYOTHIR . R vs SUNISHA N.S

Bench: 2 — Indu Malhotra, Sanjiv Khanna

In Brief

A medical school candidate challenged the admission allocation under the Sports Quota in Kerala, seeking to have another candidate shifted from the Individual Sports category to the Team Sports category, which would have improved his own ranking. The High Court's Division Bench rejected the plea, and the Supreme Court affirmed. The Court held that the Kerala State Sports Council's recommendation to change a candidate's category after the Final Rank List was published was unjustified. Once the admission process has substantially advanced, the Court cannot permit late alterations that would require redoing the entire process, particularly when the candidate had failed to raise objections during prescribed periods. The appeals were dismissed.
