Supreme Court of India 2019-09-05 dismissed

Jyothir R vs Sunisha N.S. & Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

A medical school candidate challenged his rejection from the Sports (Individual) quota, seeking to have a better-ranked candidate shifted to the Team quota instead. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeals, holding that the final allocation list cannot be reopened for category changes at such a belated stage, after counselling has been completed and students admitted. The Court found the appellant's challenge was speculative, made without impleading all affected parties, and raised only after the allocation process advanced—constituting an improper afterthought. The Sports Council's late recommendation to shift candidates was wholly unjustified and properly rejected by the admission authority."
