In Brief
Employees of Andhra Pradesh institutions listed in Schedules IX and X of the Reorganization Act, 2014, whose superannuation age was raised from 58 to 60 years, filed contempt petitions claiming entitlement to back wages and full emoluments for the gap period they did not work. The Court held that the expression 'consequential benefits' in its order dated 09.08.2017 must be interpreted according to the governing policy documents issued by the State Government, which specifically addressed the gap period. Employees are entitled only to benefits stipulated in those policy instruments, not full wages for periods they did not actually work. The contempt petitions were dismissed.
