Kamaljit Kaur vs State of Punjab & Ors

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

Kamaljit Kaur and another challenged a High Court order concerning the appointment of an Anganwadi worker in Punjab, which was disputed between a daughter and daughter-in-law. The daughter-in-law had been working for 10 years following interim Supreme Court orders. Rather than adjudicate on merits, the Supreme Court invoked Article 142 of the Constitution to settle the dispute equitably. It directed the appellant to pay ₹1,00,000 as full and final settlement to the respondent, recognized the respondent's continued service for all purposes, and modified the High Court judgment accordingly.
